Dancing and singing at Eketorp fortress

Was it you or was it I, who danced so well?

This is the first line in the old Swedish folk song that we are singing. This traditional Swedish song was written down by Anders Johan Eriksson. It is originally from Öland, Sweden, so it was very fun to sing the song and dance to it at exactly Öland.

We made the dance as we went, and sang it together as we danced.

Var det du eller var det ja’
som gick i dansen så bra?
Var det du eller var det ja’
som gick i dansen så bra?

Vi super och vi rumlar,
Vi dansar och vi tumlar
Kom, kom min vackra flicka,
gå i dansen med mig.

Vi super och vi rumlar,
Vi dansar och vi tumlar
Kom, kom min vackra gosse,
gå i dansen med mig.

Translation:
Was it you or was it I,
who danced so well?
Was it you or was it I,
who danced so well?

Let’s drink and let’s party,
let’s dance and let’s tumble about.
Oh, come my beautiful girl
Dance with me!

Let’s drink and let’s party,
let’s dance and let’s tumble about.
Oh, come my beautiful boy
Dance with me!
